Auburn Basketball received an early Christmas gift last Friday in the form of a commitment from a center from the class of 2024, Peyton Marshall.
The four-star big man chose Auburn over Missouri and Penn State and is expected to be a great presence in the paint for future Auburn teams.
Marshall looks forward to developing into an NBA talent under Bruce Pearl but has already begun the transition to a solid center says Kyle Sandy of Sandy’s Spiel.
After Marshall’s commitment, the Georgia High School basketball expert took time to speak with Auburn Wire about what he has seen during his time covering Marshall’s prep career. Sandy says that his progression from 9th to 10th grade is what has made the 7-0, 310-pound product successful to this point.
“He’s a big body that really improved his sophomore season after transferring from Norcross to Kell,” Sandy says of Marshall. “He got in much better shape and was able to play longer minutes and got quicker with his footwork.”
Marshall’s size will make him an impactful center in the SEC but still has two high school seasons in order to prepare for the speed of the game within the league. Once he gets to Auburn, Tiger fans will be impressed with his skills under the rim.
“With his size, he does a great job of sealing deep in the paint and has soft hands to catch lobs over the defense to finish with dunks,” Sandy says. “He’s not ever going to be a guy that jumps out of the gym but he uses his body very well and is a solid rim protector.”
Marshall is a four-star center from Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia. He is the No. 7 player from Georgia for the 2024 recruiting class according to On3 and is the No. 6 center in the nation. He is currently the lone commit for Auburn’s 2024 class, but his pledge moves Auburn to No. 7 in the recruiting rankings for the 2024 cycle.
