B/R says Nic Claxton is Nets’ best contract; Ben Simmons is worst deal

Nets’ Kyrie Irving discusses key to beating the Warriors on Sunday

Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton‘s contract (two years, $17.3 million) is considered the team’s best while guard Ben Simmons’ contract (three years, $113.7 million) is deemed the team’s worst, according to an article published by Bleacher Report earlier this season. The ironic thing about this article is that it seems prophetic given how this season has progressed for both of these players.

For starters, Claxton has went from rotational role player to possible DPOY and MIP candidate. He went from averaging 8.7 points and 5.6 rebounds to averaging 12.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2,7 blocks per game while shooting 73.3% from the field. Claxton has shown improvement in virtually every part of his game except for his free-throw shooting.

Simmons has essentially looked like a shell of himself for most of this season. There are some games where he looked like the Ben Simmons from his Philadelphia 76ers days. Simmons, who has also been dealing with various ailments as well, is averaging 7.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 56.9% from the field and 43.4% from the free-throw line.
