Syracuse (12-6, 5-2) travels to the Sunshine State for a matchup against #16 Miami (14-3, 5-2) on Monday, Jan. 16, at 7:00 p.m. 
 
SETTING THE STAGE
The Orange continue their winnings ways, as head coach Jim Boeheim‘s squad has captured nine of their last 11 games. Miami returns to Coral Gables after suffering an 82-81 overtime loss at NC State. The defeat marks the Canes’ second loss in conference play and their third of the season. 
 
SYRACUSE-MIAMI SERIES
Syracuse has taken 20 of 31 pairings with Miami, which dates to the 1963-64 campaign. The Hurricanes swept the Orange in both meetings last season. SU’s last victory against Miami (83-57) occurred on Jan. 19, 2021. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Orange completed the sweep of Notre Dame, 78-73, on Jan. 14. In the final three minutes, freshman guard Judah Mintz tied the contest with a jumper, 71-71. On the next possession, the Fighting Irish committed a shot clock violation. Mintz used a shooting foul to secure SU the lead for good, connecting on one-of-two shots. The Orange used the charity stripe to further secure the triumph by making seven-of-eight foul shots over the final 1:46 of action. 
 
Freshman forwards’ Chris Bell (17 points) and Maliq Brown (15 points) both contributed personal bests. Senior center Jesse Edwards recorded his ninth double-double of the season (13 points, 15 rebounds) and Mintz (14 points) notched his 10th consecutive double-figure outing. 
 
ORANGE LEADERS
Senior guard Joseph Girard III paces the Orange in scoring with 16.7 points per game. Mintz (15.6 ppg.) continues to produce a team-high steals (2.0) and assists (4.3) average. Edwards (13.3 ppg.) carries the defense with an 11.0 rebounding average. 
 
SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
Junior guard Isaiah Wong (17.2 ppg.) is one of four ‘Canes averaging 11.4 or more points per matchup. Sophomore forward Norchad Omier (13.9 ppg.) nearly averages a double-double with a 9.9 rebound average.
