Auburn remains in KenPom top-20 following win over Mississippi State

It was business as usual for the No. 22 Auburn Tigers on Saturday night, as they extended the nation’s second-longest home winning streak to 28 games by defeating Mississippi State, 69-63, at Neville Arena.

Jaylin Williams was the game’s most valuable player by scoring 13 of Auburn’s first 15 points on his way to a season-high 21 points for the Tigers. Wendell Green Jr. scored 11 points in the final 2:34 to help solidify the win over the comeback-minded Bulldogs.

Auburn was lucky on Saturday to not be included in the SEC’s upset list, as No. 5 Tennessee and No. 15 Arkansas each went down.

Auburn’s home win keeps the Tigers at No. 19 in the latest KenPom rankings. The Tigers are third in the SEC behind Tennesee and Alabama. Auburn also jumped Arkansas in the rankings following the Razorbacks’ loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Despite the win, Auburn falls from No. 51 to No. 60 in adjusted offensive efficiency with a projected score total of 110.6 points per 100 possessions.

Auburn improved one place in adjusted efficiency to No. 14 after the Mississippi State win. KenPom suggests that Auburn allows 91.7 points per 100 possessions to their opposition.

Auburn received a hefty boost in adjusted tempo, moving from No. 172 after the Ole Miss win, to No. 157 following the win over Mississippi State. The Tigers are projected to earn 68.4 possessions per a 40 mintute contest.
