Women’s Basketball Defeated by No. 4/5 Ohio State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The Rutgers women’s basketball team (4-6) fell to No. 4/5 Ohio State on Sunday afternoon, 82-70.  

Four Scarlet Knights reached double figures for the third contest in a row. Kaylene Smikle netted 21 points for her third 20+ point performance of the season in addition to Kassondra Brown (15), Kai Carter (11) and Awa Sidibe (10).  

Carter, Smikle and Chyna Cornwell paced the team with six rebounds each.  

Rutgers also celebrated C. Vivian Stringer Day, honoring the past Rutgers head coach by naming the court at Jersey Mike’s Arena in her honor.  Coach Stringer was honored with a pregame ceremony, where she was presented with a piece of the hardwood court that she coached on.  

 

 

She also spoke, along with Athletic Director Pat Hobbs, during the halftime celebration.  

How it Happened 

  • The contest started out with a 2-2 tie, which lasted just over three minutes before Ohio State hit a three to take the 5-2 edge.
