Celtics’ Jaylen Brown in upper echelon of NBA players per an anon exec

Whatever you think of the whispers about trade talks between the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets to discuss a deal that would send mercurial Nets star swingman Kevin Durant to the Celtics for star Boston wing Jaylen Brown plus other players and draft assets, it’s increasingly clear the Georgia native is seen as one of the NBA’s top players.

And it is not just because he has repeatedly found himself the focal point of rumored deals for some of the best players in the league, either. A new article from Heavy’s Steve Bulpett shared a recent assessment of Brown by an anonymous NBA scout.

“He’s GOT to fix his handle, and maybe that’s just about making better decisions in traffic,” they began with a criticism that stems from a recurrent issue in the 2022 postseason the Cal-Berkeley product had seemingly overcome in the past.

“But he’s, what, 25? Look at how much he’s improved,” asked the anonymous scout rhetorically, alluding to Brown’s tendency to pick up or improve on a new skill or two every offseason.

“He’s high level at both ends of the court, which is something you really look at with a guy who can score because not all people who can put up numbers are as invested as he is on the defensive end,” they continued.

“And Boston’s been successful with him, with both those guys. Tatum and Brown have been the top guys on a team that’s competing for a championship. I used to laugh when I heard people suggesting they should break them up. For what? I mean, there are very few players who are untradeable, but it would take a lot — I mean, a lot — for me to break that up. Now, if you’re talking about someone like Kevin Durant, then that’s a discussion you at least have to have within your team.”

“I’m not saying you end up doing it, but you’re not doing your job if you don’t have that conversation internally,” clarified the unknown exec.
