2022 SF Tyrell Ward commits to Tigers

New Tigers men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon inherited a disastrous roster situation. Nearly the entire team had departed, and so had every committed prospect in the 2022 class.

However, through impressive use of the transfer portal and some quick work recruiting, McMahon is slowly but surely putting the pieces back together. His most recent win on the trail was Hyattsville, Maryland, small forward Tyrell Ward, who announced his commitment to the Tigers on Saturday.

Ward, a 6-foot-7, 185-pound player, is the No. 35 prospect in the 2022 recruiting class per the 247Sports Composite. He attends DeMatha Catholic High School, and spent nearly a year committed to Xavier before backing off his pledge in March following the coaching change.

After beating out the Musketeers, as well as the nearby Georgetown Hoyas, LSU’s 2022 class now features three recruits and four transfers. It ranks 20th in the nation. He’s the team’s second pickup in the last few days as it also added Jalen Reed, a four-star power forward that was previously committed to Florida.

Ward is now the highest-rated recruit McMahon has landed in 2022.
