The Marist Red Foxes have been one of the best stories of the mid-major college basketball season, currently sitting in first place in the MAAC after a 9-1 start in conference play. And as the regular season nears the home stretch, the Red Foxes are looking to the past in search of inspiration for further success.
On Monday morning, the team unveiled the “Marist 87s,” a retro uniform that pays homage to one of the program’s most successful squads. The 1986-87 Red Foxes finished 15-1 in conference play en route to an NCAA tournament appearance.

The throwback threads are a replica of what the team wore during that 1986-87 campaign. A minimalistic design offers similar colors to the team’s usual white-and-red home uniforms, but features an arched nameplate on the front and a vintage block “M” logo on the shorts.
The back of the jerseys will not feature player names above the numbers, further adding to the vintage look.
“I think it’s a really cool opportunity to look back in the history of Marist with these uniforms as we’re moving into a new section of the school’s history with the change to a university,” senior center Jackson Price said in a news release. “It’s going to be cool to see.”
Formerly Marist College, the school officially became Marist University on Jan. 29.
Coincidentally, Marist’s nine-game win streak earlier this season marked the team’s longest since 1986-87. Next month, they’ll look to imitate the 1986-87 squad once more — it was the last time the Red Foxes competed in the NCAA tournament.
Marist will sport the throwback uniforms on Feb. 8 when the Iona Gaels make the trip to McCann Arena.
