SCHEDULE REPORTS: Georgetown to Face WVU for Final Big East-Big 12 Battle

Your Georgetown Hoyas may know one more opponent for their 2024-25 Global Redemption Campaign. In what appears to be the final Big East-Big 12 Battle ever, Ed Cooley and his 6+ new roster faces will reportedly be visiting Morgantown to matchup with the West Virginia Mountaineers led by new coach Darian DeVries.

Georgetown is 1-4 in this contest, beating Oklahoma State in 2019 and controversially lost to TCU last year, 84-83. The Hoyas faced a no. 11 WVU team at McDonough in 2020, losing 80-71.

Other GU schedule rumors include a potential game series with Maryland, led by Ed Cooley’s old buddy Kevin Willard.

As of right now, Georgetown’s schedule likely includes:

  • Notre Dame (home; likely mid-December)
  • at Syracuse (typically second week of December)
  • at WVU (week after Thanksgiving)

That’s it. Expect about 7 more games to be announced, but remember the Gavitt Games between the Big 10 and the BIG EAST halted after last year.

Georgetown is not currently slated for a multi-team event. Last year’s pseudo-MTE with home back-to-back games against Mount St. Mary’s and American caused more sweat than usual, without producing any apparent fruit.

With Ivan Thomas headed to Hampton, there is potential for a reunion there, but low-ranked preseason opponents with a familiarity to your system seem to be too big a gamble these days.

Perhaps more schedule news will come when the portal closes and the coaches go back to pretending they weren’t just in bidding wars over the same guys.

The GUHoyas roster page has resumed its typical form.
