With Colorado’s football and men’s basketball programs attacking the illustrious transfer portal as of late, the CU Buffs women’s basketball team got back in on the fun Monday morning.
Head coach JR Payne and her staff looked toward the Big 12 Conference they’re joining by signing former Oklahoma State Cowgirls forward Lior Garzon. CU picked up forward Nyamer Diew from fellow Big 12 opponent Iowa State last week.
Garzon spent her first two college seasons at Villanova before transferring to Oklahoma State for her junior and senior years. Last season, she averaged 9.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 30 starts for the Cowgirls
At 6-foot-1, Garzon should bring a rebounding presence to Boulder. However, her 3-point shot and prior Big 12 experience were likely more sought after. Garzon is a career 34.1% shooter from deep, although she hopes to return to the 41% 3-point shooting mark she notched her junior year.
Garzon joins Diew as another great early transfer portal pickup for Payne.
