While Watford’s stats don’t blow the doors off for anyone (6.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 52.7% from the field and 39.7% from three-point land), part of Watford’s appeal is in his versatility as more of a big than a wing.

Watford, listed at 6-foot-9 and 240 pounds, is more of a tweener between power forward and center as he has some size to compete in the frontcourt, but it also adept at handling the ball and creating scoring opportunities using his handle and craftiness.

As Watford said during his interview following the season finale, he views himself as more of a point forward than he does as a center and that could be why he thrived more in Brooklyn than he did during his first two seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers.

For the most part, Watford had an unstable role in the rotation given that his skillset overlapped with Ben Simmons and even then, it seemed that the Nets wanted more capable ball-handlers on the floor instead of Watford.

Granted, Watford is more of a secondary ball-handler than he is a primary orchestrator of an offense, but he can make some things happen off the dribble when he isn’t facing too much pressure that prevents him from seeing the court.

With the way Watford finished this season, it’s possible that he could have plenty of suitors for what his skills and versatility can bring to most teams, but it all depends on how much the Nets are willing to pay to keep him in restricted free-agency.
