Warriors convert Usman Garuba to fill final roster spot

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly converting Usman Garuba’s contract into a standard NBA deal until the end of the season. He has been on a two-way contract with the franchise throughout the season. Garuba will fill Golden State’s 15th roster spot and provide depth for the frontcourt.

Garuba played in 21 games for the Santa Cruz Warriors this season, averaging 13.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks. He’s shot 40.6% from 3-point range on 1.5 attempts per game and hit 56.3% of his shots from the field. Garuba has made five appearances for Golden State this season, too.

The 6-foot-8 forward entered the NBA in the 2021 draft after impressing during his tenure with Real Madrid. He spent two seasons with the Houston Rockets. He was traded to the Atlanta Hawks last season, where he was re-routed to the Oklahoma City Thunder before eventually being waived.

Garuba is unlikely to feature in Steve Kerr‘s play-in (and hopefully playoff) rotation. However, his presence will ensure there’s depth and additional size on the bench, should it be required.
