Washington Receives No. 2 Seed In Inaugural WBIT

SEATTLE – Washington women’s basketball (16-14, 6-12 Pac-12) is postseason bound for the second season in a row, having been selected as the No. 2 seed in the inaugural 2024 Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT), the WBIT committee announced Sunday. 

The Huskies will host Georgetown (22-11, 9-9 Big East) in the First Round on Thursday, March 21 at time TBD in Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle, Wash. 

This will be UW’s 28th overall postseason appearance in 50 seasons. Prior to last season, the last time Washington had received a postseason berth was at the end of the 2016-17 season, when the Huskies went to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. Last season, Washington made its seventh WNIT appearance, advancing to the Fab Four for the first time in program history. 

This 32-team postseason event will be played Thursday, March 21 (First Round), Sunday, March 24 (Second Round), and Thursday, March 28 (Quarterfinals), with the highest-seeded teams hosting games at campus sites. The WBIT Semifinal and Final games will be held at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. on Monday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 3.

About the WBIT

In 2023 the NCAA announced the creation of an annual 32-team postseason invitation tournament for women’s basketball, which will be owned and funded by the NCAA. The Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) will be held annually beginning in 2024.
