LAS VEGAS, Nev. – No. 10-seed Washington women’s basketball (16-14, 6-12 Pac-12) lost a tough fight to No. 7-seed Arizona (17-14, 8-10 Pac-12) 50-58 in the Pac-12 Tournament First Round on Wednesday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Huskies went on an 8-0 run in the first quarter, and turned defense into offense many times in the first half by converting steal and score opportunities. Jayda Noble recorded her 100th career steal in the second quarter, finishing with a bucket off an assist from Sayvia Sellers.
Also in the second quarter, Lauren Schwartz went for the steal and score, and converted an and-one. Sellers followed up with a steal-and-score of her own.
Going into halftime, the Huskies trailed by two points and were shooting 50.0% from the field. Dalayah Daniels got the scoring started in the second half, and the Huskies continued to battle.
With 29.8 seconds to go, the Huskies were down by two. UW showed no quit as the Dawgs fought to give themselves a chance to edge out Arizona.
Daniels finished with 13 points to lead the team in scoring, also adding a game-high 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, and 17th of her career (13th as a Husky). Daniels also recorded three blocks and two steals.
Elle Ladine was the other Husky in double-digit scoring with 10 points, and had seven rebounds.
Sellers finished with 9 points, and Schwartz finished with eight points, two steals, and two blocks.
UW held Arizona to shooting under their average season and conference field goal percentages.
Washington will await to see what’s next in their season, with Selection Sunday coming up on March 17.
