Sixers hope Tyrese Maxey can return from injury absence vs. Jazz

The Philadelphia 76ers have had a miserable road trip. They dropped to 0-4 on the trip with a 119-107 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. The trip wraps up on Thursday against the Utah Jazz.

The Sixers have dealt with numerous injuries during the trip. Tobias Harris missed the first two games of the trip with an illness. Joel Embiid missed two games before returning against the Warriors, but he couldn’t finish the contest. Tyrese Maxey has missed three games in a row with an ankle injury.

While the Sixers are unsure what will happen with Embiid as they await the results of an MRI, coach Nick Nurse hopes Maxey will return against the Jazz.

“I think so,” Nurse told reporters on Tuesday before the loss to the Warriors. “I mean, we’re close with him. I was hoping he was gonna make it tonight. I was pretty much — when he didn’t play last night, we thought we’d have him tonight, but it didn’t work out that way. So I would imagine, he gets a couple more days, he should be ready to go.”

Maxey has played terrific basketball all season. He’s averaging 25.7 points, 6.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 44.8% from the floor and 37.3% from deep. Regardless of what happens with Embiid, it will help the Sixers to have Maxey on the floor against a scrappy Jazz team.
