MBB Recap: Oregon’s Second-Half Run and Bench Lead Ducks Past Sun Devils

The Sun Devil men’s hoops team jumped out to a 22-12 lead midway through the first half in Eugene, but Oregon shot 18-of-26 (.692) in the second half and was 15-of-16 (.938) from the free throw line to top ASU 80-61 Thursday night in a battle of teams at the top of the Pac-12 standings.

ASU — now 10-6 in its past 16 Pac-12 road games — had won the past two games in Eugene.

KEY STATS

Oregon  shot .509 (28-of-55) from the field, the best shooting by ASU opponent on year. Its bench outscored ASU’s bench 33-18 and outscored ASU 52-18 in the second half. Oregon’s nine turnovers were second-lowest by an ASU opponent this year (five vs. Vanderbilt in Las Vegas). Despite losing by 19, ASU led for more than 20 minutes and had an 11-0 scoring run in the first half.

CAN’T GET TO THE LINE

ASU’s seven free throws made and 11 free throw attempts were both season lows, as was its 27 total rebounds. Oregon was whistled for just 11 fouls, the fewest by an ASU opponent all year.
