ROME, Ga.  Two Methodist University basketball student-athletes were recognized on Monday as the USA South Athletic Conference announced its Athletes of the Week. Zac Sledge of the men’s basketball team and Aniyah Tate of the women’s basketball team both collected honors for their recent performances.

Sledge, a 6-foot-8 junior, was named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for averaging 19 points, 7.5 rebounds, four blocks and two assists in two contests last week. He scored a season-high 16 points versus Newport News Apprentice School on Tuesday before topping that with 22 points against Piedmont on Friday. He shot 62.5% from the floor (15-for-24) during the two games while sinking eight of 12 attempts at the free-throw line.

Tate, a senior forward, was named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for recording a double-double in her team’s lone game of the week. As the Monarchs defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 68-52, Tate notched game highs of 23 points (also a season high) and 10 rebounds while collecting two assists and two steals. Shooting 9-for-16 from the field, she also went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.
