St. Bonaventure's Mika Adams-Woods Receives A10 and National Player of the Week Honors

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Graduate guard Mika Adams-Woods received a pair of honors to start the week. He earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors on Monday. On Tuesday, he received National Player of the Week honors from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), who recognizes five standouts from the 32 Division I conference players of the week.

He joined Enrique Freeman (Akron), David Jones (Memphis), Arthur Kaluma (Kansas State) and Tyler Kolek (Marquette) in this week’s USBWA National Players of the Week list.

In wins over Siena and Niagara, Adams-Woods shot an unbelievable 95% from the floor on 20 attempts, including a perfect 9-for-9 from three. He scored a career-high 25 points against Niagara, along with five assists. As the Bonnies took down Siena to win the Franciscan Cup, he put up a game-high 23 points.

“I know I don’t want to do too much,” He said after the win over Siena. “I just let the game come to me and pick my spots knowing when to get in the lane, take my shots, and dish it out.”

He missed his first field goal attempt against Niagara, which then turned into his only missed field goal the entire week. His immaculate 95% field goal percentage is the best of any Division I player who attempted 12 or more field goals throughout the week. Overall, his 61.4% field goal percentage on the season ranks fifth-best across the A10.

Adams-Woods’ breakout comes at a great time for the Bonnies and head coach Mark Schmidt. Point guard Kyrell Luc recently returned from injury after missing five games, while starting guard Charles Pride has missed the past three games. Adams-Woods provides consistency and experience in the backcourt, even though this is his first season in the Brown and White. In four years at Cincinnati, he appeared in 121 games including 104 starts. Now, he’s averaging 16 points and 4.3 assists per game as a top offensive weapon for Bona.

They look to continue the heater and five-game win streak with a tough task this week against the AP’s No. 15 ranked Florida Atlantic Owls. The game tips at 4 p.m. ET Saturday as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass.
