Porter Moser showing he’s the guy for the Sooners

Sooners working to seize every opportunity

After his first two seasons coaching for the Oklahoma Sooners, Porter Moser was just one game above .500. His team hadn’t made an NCAA Tournament and the buzz of his hire had started to dwindle.

He had been dealt some bad luck. Each of those first two years, he had to completely revamp his roster due to the transfer portal. A lot of guys who came to Oklahoma from the portal also came with just one year left of college ball.

Year three was going to be no different as he was going to have to revamp his roster once again. It was starting to look like a make-or-break season for Moser. The last thing the Sooners wanted to do was have to find a new head coach heading into a new conference.

But so far this year, Moser has put those criticisms to rest. The Sooners are off to their best start since he took over, sitting at 8-0 and are ranked in the top 25 for the first time under Moser as well. They’ve got notable wins over Iowa, USC, and Providence, helping the Sooners build a strong resume as they prepare for a tough nonconference stretch.

Moser now has to prepare for a good Arkansas Razorbacks team in Tulsa. He spoke with reporters about the challenges he’ll face Saturday.

“Arkansas, what you think of is extreme length and athleticism, playing really hard,” Moser said. “That’s what they do. They play really hard. They get their athleticism into the game. They’re long, athletic and they’ve got multiple scorers but you’ve got to match their effort.”

The Sooners will look to just that on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT in Tulsa, Okla. at the BOK Center.
