De’Anthony Melton talks Sixers being in limbo waiting for Round 2

CAMDEN, N.J.–The Philadelphia 76ers are still in wait-and-see mode as they prepare for Round 2. It was assumed that the Boston Celtics would finish off the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday at home and set up the semifinals matchup, but Trae Young had other plans.

Young drilled a game-winner with 1.8 seconds left as the Hawks rallied to beat the Celtics 119-117. The win allowed the Sixers to get some more rest as the semifinals won’t begin now until May 1. Philadelphia last played on April 22 so they will have over a week to rest and prepare.

With that being said, there is no opponent. There is nobody to really prepare for and that can cause a team to be in a state of limbo a bit.

“It definitely is,” laughed De’Anthony Melton. “Finishing that last game—it’s what we want. We wanted a break to make sure everybody can get shots up and get even more healthier and just get prepared for whoever we play. I think we’re ready and we’re worried about the next day and that’s where we’re taking it.”

The playoffs have been exciting to begin the run in the NBA. There have been some explosive performances around the league including Young’s big shot for Atlanta on Tuesday to give the Sixers more time to rest.

“Honestly, I just think it’s fun to watch basketball,” said Melton. “I think that’s what the NBA is coming to. There’s so much talent in this league so sometimes, on any given night, you don’t know who’s gonna win. You see a lot going on right now in the league with the bottom seeds winning.”

The downtime does allow Melton and the Sixers to be able to just lounge around and enjoy the games until it’s time to take the court again.

“I’m just excited to watch basketball,” Melton finished. “I’m ready for whoever and I’m just worried about attacking the next day and making sure my body’s right.”
