Men’s Basketball Signs Amar’e Marshall

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s basketball team has announced that Amar’e Marshall, a 6-4 guard from Montclair, N.J., will join the Great Danes in 2023-24. Marshall spent the last two seasons with the Hofstra basketball program.

“We are thrilled to welcome Amar’e to the Great Dane family,” said Head Coach Dwayne Killings. “His versatility on the perimeter and the opportunity he had playing for one of the top programs in the CAA will add depth, game experience, a commitment to playing with a purpose, and burning desire to win. The staff has focused and worked hard this offseason in recruiting, and Amar’e is a great person to add as we prepare to play in the newly renovated SEFCU Arena.”

Marshall redshirted his freshman year before hitting the court at Hofstra for the 2022-23 season. The New Jersey native played in 28 games for the Pride, starting in three. He averaged 5.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 12.4 minutes while shooting .430 from the field and .405 from beyond the arc. Marshall won the Colonial Athletic Association’s (CAA) Rookie of the Week award four times throughout the course of the year. His best game came on Dec. 7  when he dropped 24 points on 10-17 shooting against #4 ranked Purdue.

“I chose UAlbany because they recruited me the most and showed the most belief in me as a player,” said Marshall. “Also, I felt the family atmosphere from the coaching staff and players when I visited the school. It felt like the best opportunity for me to come in, make an impact, and win games.”

Marshall excelled in the classroom as well, being named to the 2021-22 CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. Out of high school, he received McDonald’s All-American nomination honors.
