UConn men's basketball lineup already going through a transformation

With the departures of Adama Sanogo and Jordan Hawkins to the NBA Draft, Nahiem Alleyne to the transfer portal, and Joey Calcaterra, who is out of eligibility, the national champion UConn men’s basketball team will have a different look in 2023-24. Here’s what the starting lineup and rotation could look like:

Starting lineup

Guard, Stephon Castle: The highly touted, 6-foot-6 point guard from Georgia could get on-the-job development as an immediate starter.

Guard, Tristen Newton: The transfer from East Carolina had a major impact on UConn as the starting point guard. If he returns for another year, he could play a bigger role in the scoring.

Guard/forward, Andre Jackson Jr.: The captain and a versatile athlete, Jackson could yet decide to test NBA waters, but has seemed determined to be an old-school, four-year college player. He would anchor UConn’s defense as a senior.

Forward, Alex Karaban: The impressive, sharp-shooting forward returns as a sophomore to continue his development.

Center, Donovan Clingan: The 7-1 Bristol Central grad should have no problem getting minutes, and developing as an NBA prospect next year.

Off the bench

Freshmen: G Solomon Ball, F Jaylin Stewart, F Jaylen Ross, C Youssouf Singare complete a highly rated incoming class.

Second-year players: F Yarin Hasson, Apostolos Roumoglou.

Third year: Samson Johnson, if he returns, could get his chance in the front court.

Still to come: Look for a shooter to come in from the transfer portal to replace Calcaterra as a specialist.
