The Brooklyn Nets have signed center Moses Brown to a second 10-day contract, according to a statement made by the team on Tuesday. Brownβs initial 10-day contract expired on Monday after being signed to the deal on Mar. 17. Brown came to the Nets after being waived by the New York Knicks on Mar. 12.
Brown, in his fourth season out of UCLA, has played only one game for the Nets since being on the team. That game came in Sundayβs 119-106 loss to the Orlando Magic. Brown came into the game during garbage time (came into the game with 3:53 left in the fourth quarter with the Magic leading 115-122) and picked up one steal and one turnover in 4 minutes of playing time.
While not officially confirmed by anyone within the Netsβ organization, it appears that Brown was signed to apply pressure to second-year center DayβRon Sharpe. Sharpe has responded to the challenge well by averaging averaging 9.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 57.5% from the field in the six games that heβs played in since Nerlens Noel was signed as Brooklynβs initial attempt to find a backup center.
Since Brown has been out of the rotation since he was signed, itβs possible that this is just to keep the motivation on Sharpe. However, itβs also possible that Brooklyn has plans for Brown down the line with the postseason fast approaching.

Asked Jacque Vaughn if the 10-days to Noel & Brown have motivated DayβRon Sharpe. He laughed & his voice was laced w/ sarcasm when he said βOf course we wouldn’t do that! We wouldn’t sign those two bigs to motivate DayβRon to be professional & bring all he has every single day.β
