Allen Flanigan, Jaylin Williams are Tigers of the Game in Houston loss

Saturday night was brutal for the Auburn Tigers, as they were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by No. 1 seed Houston, 81-64 on Saturday night at Legacy Arena in Birmingham.

Auburn blew a 10-point halftime lead by allowing Houston to outscore them, 50-23 over the game’s final 20 minutes. Despite the crushing meltdown, there there several bright spots in the game.

Three players reached double figures in scoring, and four players connected on 50% or higher on their free throw shots. As a team, Auburn got 16 points from their bench and connected on 30 points from the paint.

Allen Flanigan had a productive night in all aspects of Saturday’s game. Flanigan was third in points with 10, trailing just Jaylin Williams and Johni Broome who scored 14 each. He had the highest free throw percentage by connecting on 80% (4-of-5) of his shots, and he led the team in rebounds with nine.

Flanigan pulled down nine rebounds to lead the team in that category. Saturday’s game marks the third time that Flanigan has led the team in boards, and the first time since March 1 against Alabama, where he led the team with eight rebounds. His season high in rebounds is 10, which he has accomplished three times this season.

Jaylin Williams tied for the team lead in points with 14, with most of his production coming in the first half. He led the team in scoring with 11 through the game’s first 20 minutes, making 4-of-10 points and going 2-for-3 from the free throw line.

Auburn fans have spoken, and they have chosen Allen Flanigan as the Tiger of the Game in Auburn’s loss to Houston. Flanigan won the close contest by earning 40% of the vote, beating out Jaylin Williams, Johni Broome, and Wendell Green Jr.
