The Dallas Mavericks are just 3-7 in their last 10 games and are in serious danger of missing the postseason despite the addition of All-Star Kyrie Irving. Irving hasn’t been the immediate help that the team expected him to be, and Dallas may be running out of time for him and superstar Luka Doncic to work out the kinks.
Still, both players are among the most talented offensive players the NBA has ever seen, and if they can both get hot, then they could be a tough out in the playoffs. That assumes they make the playoffs, particularly with their recent rash of injuries, Irving included.

Irving is listed as questionable for the Mavericks’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday with right foot soreness. It will likely be a game-time decision regarding Irving, though, with Luka Doncic’s status, he might try to give it a go.

Fortunately, for the Mavericks, who are already banged up, Irving’s injury doesn’t appear to be serious despite his coin-flip status for tonight’s game against the Grizzlies. If he doesn’t play tonight, he could very well play in their next game, which also happens to be against the Grizzlies. Perhaps, with the Grizzlies missing Ja Morant and Stephen Adams, the Mavericks may opt to bench Irving in hopes of giving his right foot more time to recover ahead of Monday’s (3/13) game against Memphis.

In addition to Irving, McKinley Wright IV, and Javale McGee are labeled as day-to-day, while Reggie Bullock is listed as probable following a right thigh concussion. Doncic is also on the injury report.

The Mavericks’ next five opponents following their game against the Memphis Grizzlies may very well determine whether or not they qualify for the postseason. In the West, the Mavericks are only two games ahead of the Utah Jazz. This means that a bad five-game stretch may drop them from the sixth seed to out of the playoffs. Overall, Irving will likely be back soon. However, the injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Mavericks.
