UNC basketball star big man Armando Bacot has been named as one of the five finalists for this year’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award.
UNC basketball senior big man Armando is one of five finalists being considered for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, an award that honors the nation’s best center. The list of finalists was announced on Friday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Bacot is the lone ACC player to make the list of finalists, as he’s joined by Ryan Kalkbrenner of Creighton, Zach Edey of Purdue, Adama Sanogo of UConn, as well as last year’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award winner Oscar Tshiebwe of Kentucky.
The Richmond, Virginia native has averaged a double-double for the second consecutive season. Although his overall numbers went down, Bacot was still a vital part of the UNC basketball program’s success, even while dealing with various injuries over the last few months.
The selection committee for this award features some of the top men’s college basketball personnel of various levels. The committee includes media members, head coaches, sports information directors, as well as some Hall of Famer players.
Tar Heel fans can support Bacot by participating in the official fan voting that kicked off on Friday at hoophallawards.com. The fan vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process, which will occur sometime this month.
