Tyson named as finalist for prestigious award

Clemson forward Hunter Tyson is in contention for one of the nation’s most prestigious awards.

Tyson is one of 10 candidates for the 2023 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Thursday.

The award is given to the best power forward in college basketball and is one of the Naismith Starting Five awards.

Leading the Tigers (18-6, 10-3 ACC) in scoring this season, Tyson is averaging 16.1 points per game and grabbing 9.8 rebounds per game.

The Monroe, North Carolina native has been on fire since the onset of the season, scoring in double figures in all but two of the Tigers’ 24 games. One of Tyson’s most notable performances came on Dec. 30 when he scored a career-high 31 points against NC State. Since then, he has come close to surpassing his career-high mark once again, scoring 28 and 27 in January.

Tyson and the Tigers will be back in action on Saturday when they take on the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, at 2 p.m. EST.
