Appleby Named to Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men’s basketball graduate guard Tyree Appleby has been named one of the top 50 college basketball players, as he was selected to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List.

In just 19 games with the Demon Deacons so far this season, Appleby has started every game and leads the ACC in assists per game (6.05) and is second in scoring (18.1 ppg). Appleby’s 6.05 assists per game this season ranks him 11th nationally in dishing dimes. In conference play, the Arkansas native is averaging 7.38 assists per game. He is also averaging 1.84 steals per game, which is the third-best mark in the league. Appleby is fifth in the league averaging over 35 minutes per game.

Of Appleby’s 19 games in a Wake Forest uniform, he has finished 17 of them with double-figure scoring and nine of them with seven or more assists. The 6-foot guard averages 3.1 rebounds per game but has pulled down four or more eight times this season.

The Deacs are currently 14-5 overall and second in the league standings with a record of 6-2. They have defeated two top-25 opponents already this season in then-No. 25 Duke and No. 19 Clemson. Wake Forest hosts No. 10 Virginia at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum this Saturday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. Tickets for the top-10 matchup can be purchased here.
