CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Following a statement performance against No. 12/10 Iowa, Illinois Women’s Basketball’s Genesis Bryant has earned ESPN’s Player of the Week award and repeated as a Big Ten Co-Player of the Week.

Across the Illini’s 2-0 week, Bryant averaged 19 PPG, 3.5 RPG and 3.5 APG. She turned in 14 points at Wisconsin before registering a career-high 24 in the Illini’s upset of No. 12/10 Iowa. Making the most of the opportunities, the Wisconsin and Iowa games marked just the third and fourth starts of the junior’s career.

Across the week, Bryant shot 68.4ย percent (13-of-19)ย from the field, 71.4 percent (5-of-7)ย from 3-point range, and 1.000 (7-of-7) from the free throw line. The junior NC State transfer has been hard at work,ย drawing 10 fouls across the pair of wins – resulting in her 13th and 14th games of not missing a free throw.ย

Bryant is the first Illini to earn multiple Big Ten Player of the Week honors in the same season since Amber Moore did so in 2013-14 (11/18/13 and 12/16/13). Additionally, Bryant is the first Illini to repeat as B1G Player of the Week since Karisma Penn in 2012-13 (12/31/12 and 1/7/13).

With the pair of wins, Illinois is out to a 13-2 start under first-year head coach Shauna Green – the best 15-game start in program history.ย

Bryant’s ESPN honor joins her with Coach Green, who was recognized as the outlet’s Coach of the Week following the win at Missouri, who was receiving votes.
