No. 10 UCLA Takes on Oregon State on New Year’s Day


Corvallis, Ore. – The Bruins (13-1, 2-0 Pac-12) are set to face the Beavers (8-5, 0-2 Pac-12) at noon on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023. UCLA finishes its trip to the Beaver State with the game Sunday, which will be broadcast on Pac-12 Oregon. Ann Schatz and Angela Taylor will be on the call, and Dave Marcus will provide play-by-play analysis on the radio broadcast.
 
The Bruins are 8-12 against Oregon State under Cori Close – the Bruins defeated the Beavers in the last meeting between the teams, winning 74-66 in Corvallis on March 27 in UCLA’s 2022 WNIT run.

Behind a career night from freshman Kiki Rice, the No. 10 Bruins earned their second victory over a top-20 team this season (vs. No. 11/12 Tennessee, Nov. 20 – W, 80-63). Rice had 21 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals in UCLA’s second-consecutive Pac-12 victory. Charisma Osborne scored 17, and Gina Conti added 11 to the tally. The Bruins shot 45.6%, outpacing the Ducks (42.4%) on the night, and swiped a season-high 15 steals in the win.
 
KEY NOTES ON THE BRUINS
 
• UCLA has made 183 free throws through 14 games (4th – Pac-12), shooting 74.7% on the year (2nd – Pac-12, 183- 245 FT). The Bruins rank 1st in offensive rebounds per game in the Pac-12 (16.6 ORPG, 8th – NCAA). UCLA is 3rd in the Pac-12 in total rebounding (43.6 RPG).
• The Bruins, averaging 9.4 steals per game, have swiped at least seven steals in each of their 13 victories this season. UCLA had a season-high 15 steals against Oregon on Friday, Dec. 30.
Kiki Rice has started all 14 games of her first collegiate season, averaging 29.6 minutes per game. The freshman floor general ranks second on the team in assists (46 AST), which is the second most among freshmen in the Pac-12. Rice has totaled 181 points on the season, which ranks third among first-year players in the Pac-12 (13th among all players).
