USC Welcomes Mid-Year Transfer Dominique Onu From UCLA

USC’s backcourt will get another boost with the addition of 5-9 guard Dominique Onu, who comes to Troy as a mid-year transfer from UCLA. After two seasons with the Bruins, the Florida native is heading across town to join the Trojans for the coming spring 2023 semester, USC head coach Lindsay Gottlieb announced today (Dec. 23).

“We are thrilled to add Dominique Onu to our Trojan Family,” Gottlieb said. “As we build towards a championship caliber program, we have been intentional about bringing high character, high work ethic, highly skilled players to Troy. Dom fits that mold, and adds leadership and a love for the game that will make us better with her presence immediately.”

Ranked as the No. 26 recruit in the nation in 2021, Onu prepped at Blair Academy in New Jersey before signing on with UCLA, where she enrolled early as a true freshman in 2020-21. Onu played in 16 games as a freshman and in 27 with seven starts as a sophomore last season. She averaged 5.4 points per game in her sophomore season and set her career high with 16 points at Oregon. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Onu helped Blair Academy win the NJISAA State title as a junior in 2020, averaging 15.8 points per game that year.

“Dom is a versatile, athletic guard that can play on or off the ball and make plays for herself or others,” Gottlieb added. “Her experience in the Pac-12 will benefit us, and her fluidity in the open court fits the style we like to play. I’m excited to coach her.”

Onu will compete for USC starting in Fall 2023.
