Columbia, Mo. – Graduate student DeAndre Gholston sunk a midcourt buzzer-beater to lift the Missouri men’s basketball team to a 68-66 victory over UCF on Saturday afternoon in the AutoNation Orange Bowl Basketball Classic. With the win, the Tigers improve to 10-1, while the Knights drop to 8-3.
Trailing by nine points with under six minutes remaining, the Knights connected on five 3-pointers during a 15-5 run – turning a nine-point deficit into a one-point advantage with less than 30 seconds remaining. Mizzou forced a UCF miss and D’Moi Hodge collected a rebound with less than seven seconds left in the game. The graduate student would slip after crossing midcourt but knocked the loose ball to Gholston, who sunk a shot from nearly 40 feet out to secure the victory for the Tigers.

Graduate students Nick Honor and Gholston carried the Tigers during the winning effort. Honor was named Orange Bowl MVP after leading Mizzou with 17 points – connecting on 6-of-9 field goals and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Gholston added 16 points – all coming in the second half – but none bigger than the three at the buzzer.
Hodge also added 15 points in the winning effort, while senior Isiaih Mosley recorded a team-best four assists.
