No. 10 UCLA Opens Conference Play at Cross-City Rival Thursday


LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women’s basketball team (9-1) plays its first Pac-12 competition against USC on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. inside the Galen Center. The conference opener will be broadcast on Pac-12 Los Angeles with Mary Murphy and Tracy Warren on the call.
 
The Bruins and Trojans last met on March 2, 2022, in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament. UCLA pulled out a 73-60 victory over the other Los Angeles school in the Las Vegas, Nev., tournament. UCLA holds a 54-40 advantage in the series since 1971-72 and currently boasts a six-game winning streak over USC.

The Bruins allowed just 12 points in the first half from the Cal State Fullerton Titans on Dec. 10. Kiki Rice led UCLA in scoring with 14 points (7-for-12 FG) en route to the Bruins’ fifth-consecutive home win of the season. Rice added three rebounds, two assists, a block and three steals in the win. Charisma Osborne scored 13 points in the win. Christeen Iwuala was the third Bruin in double figures (10 pts, 4-6 FG) and tied her season high in rebounds (8 REB). Gabriela Jaquez and Gina Conti pulled down nine boards apiece.
 
KEY NOTES ON THE BRUINS
 
• UCLA has made 146 free throws through nine games (3rd – Pac-12), shooting 74.9% on the year (3rd – Pac-12, 146-195 FT). The Bruins rank 1st in offensive rebounds per game in the Pac-12 (17.1 ORPG, 12th – NCAA). UCLA is 2nd in the Pac-12, 15th in the nation in rebounding (45.8 RPG).
Charisma Osborne has scored 197 points (3rd – Pac-12, 25th in the NCAA) through 10 games, averaging 19.7 ppg (4th – Pac-12, 26th – NCAA). She has the second-most field goals made (68 FGM) and field goal attempts (146 FGA) in the Pac-12. Osborne ranks 3rd in minutes played (319 min.), 4th in FTM (41) and 5th in FT% (83.7%).  Osborne is tied for 6th in 3PM (20 3PM) and tied for 7th in defensive rebounds (51 DRPG) in the Conference. She also ranks 10th in total rebounds (64 REB) and 12th in rebounds per game (6.4 RPG) in the Pac-12.
