Late Bryant Bucket Bests Syracuse

Syracuse (3-3) lost to Bryant (5-1), 73-72, in an intense battle inside the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday afternoon.

Syracuse was led by a 25-point career outing from freshman guard Justin Taylor, who topped his previous personal best of five points against Northeastern just a week ago. 16 of Taylors points came in the second half of action.

WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED
Syracuse held a 72-71 advantage with eight seconds left in the contest, as senior guard Joseph Girard III made two free-throws at the line, but late layup from Sherif Gross-Bullock propelled Bryant to the win as time on the clock expired.

KEEPING IT LOW

With the score tied 6-6 with 16 minutes left to play in the opening half, the Bulldogs pieced together a 16-7 stretch, led by Charles Pride with a five-piece to make it a 22-13 ballgame with 9:15 remaining before the break. Syracuse was held to a season-low 29 points in the first half of action.  The visiting Bulldogs expanded their lead to as high as 13 points in the first frame and the Orange managed to get within two points twice in the early going.

A three-pointer at the buzzer by Gross-Bullock allowed Bryant to enter the half with a hefty 40-29 lead versus Syracuse.

TROUBLE ON THE HILL

A double technical foul was assessed with 7:35 remaining in the first frame. Freshman guard Judah Mintz and Bryant’s Doug Edert were both ejected from the game. The Bulldogs’ Tyler Brelsford and Kvonn Cramer were both ejected for leaving the visitors’ bench. Mintz scored just seven points before being taken out of the matchup which marked the third game this season that he shot 100% at the free-throw line (3-for-3 today).
