Kris Murray had a great night, scoring a career high 30 points to pace No. 24 Iowa (4-0) in its 100-64 win over the Omaha Mavericks.

There was plenty of offseason buzz, and, right now, Murray is backing all of that buzz up and officially has Hawkeye Nation fired up. He finished by making 13-of-17 shots from the floor, collected seven rebounds, had a pair of blocks and tallied an assist.

The game kind of just set up that way. Kind of got myself into a rhythm early, just easy baskets, open jump shots. I mean, it just came to my I guess in just different areas where I could affect the game. It’s what I want to do. That happened to be scoring today to just get us a jumpstart, get us on a little run, momentum for the other guys, too,” Murray said of his career night.

It helped that he finished 4-of-6 from 3-point range, too. It signals to other teams that they can’t just pack the lane.

“For me, it just gives me a lot of confidence. Just knowing that I can score at a lot of different levels and that it’s going to be tough to stop me that night and then just open up a lot of things for other guys, too. When we get going like that, when one person gets going, eventually other guys are going to get going, too. You kind of saw that happen, end of the first half, early into the second half,” Murray said.

Up next for the Hawkeyes is a trip out to Florida for the Emerald Coast Classic against Clemson on Friday at 6 p.m. and then the either TCU or Cal on Saturday.
