Huskies Ink Four-Star Recruit Wesley Yates III

SEATTLE – Four-star recruit Wesley Yates III has signed a National Letter of Intent, announcing his commitment to the University of Washington men’s basketball program.

Yates is a 6’4″ shooting guard out of Beaumont, Texas and is the 37th-ranked prospect on ESPN’s Top-100. He also reportedly received offers from Gonzaga, Baylor, Memphis and Auburn, among other schools.

Head Coach Mike Hopkins on Yates: “We are thrilled to welcome Wesley to the Husky family. He is a tremendous student-athlete who is a difference maker both on the court and in the classroom. Wesley is an elite scorer and dynamic playmaker, whose skillset makes him one of the most talented guards in the nation.  As a two-time state champion, he’s a proven winner with an unrelenting work ethic. Wesley comes from an incredible family, embodies our core values, and fits exactly into what we are building here at Washington.”

Yates has several ties to the Huskies and Seattle. His father was born here and his cousin, Quincy Pondexter, is currently serving as an assistant coach on Hopkins’ staff. Yates averaged 19.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game last season at Beaumont United, leading his team to a 36-3 record and a second consecutive 5A championship. He was just named to the 2023 Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Trophy Preseason Watch List.
