Women’s Basketball Continues Non-Conference Slate Against SEMO and Western Kentucky


COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Women’s Basketball looks to continue its early-season win streak with a pair of home contests against SEMO and Western Kentucky in the coming days. The Tigers will face the Redhawks at 1 p.m. Sunday and matchup with Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. Monday. Both contests will be played in Mizzou Arena and broadcasted live on SECN+ and KTGR radio.

The Tigers took care of business in their home opener against Bradley, 83-38, on Thursday. Led by career-high scoring performances from junior center Jayla Kelly and freshman guard Ashton Judd, Mizzou opened up a 20-point halftime lead and continued to roll into the second half.

Senior guard Lauren Hansen led all scorers with 17 points on 7-13 shooting. She also chipped in a pair of rebounds and an assist.

The Tigers’ defense proved pesky in allowing the program’s lowest point total since 2018. Kelly and junior guard Mama Dembele each recorded three steals, part of the team’s total of 11.

Dembele had a strong all-around performance in Thursday’s contest, as she grabbed six rebounds and handed out six assists.

Sunday will mark Mizzou’s 19th contest against SEMO, with the Tigers leading the Redhawks 17-1 in the all-time series. Mizzou earned the victory in the most recent meeting in 2015.

SEMO is led by Rekha Patterson in her seventh year as head coach for the Redhawks. The program finished last year with a 6-23 record. 

The Redhawks are 1-1 on the season with an 83-57 loss on the road against Ole Miss. Junior guard Rahmeena Henderson led the team in scoring with 13 points.

In her first season as a starter, Henderson leads the Redhawks with 11.5 points per game along with four rebounds per game.

Monday’s game against Western Kentucky will mark the third matchup between the Tigers and the Lady Toppers, with the series tied 1-1. The teams last faced off in 2017, with the Tigers taking a narrow loss.

Western Kentucky enters Monday’s matchup with an 0-1 record, with their lone game of the season being a home loss to Vanderbilt.

The Lady Toppers finished last season 18-12 with a first-round loss in the Conference USA Tournament. Greg Collins is at the helm for his fifth season at Western Kentucky.

Western Kentucky is led by sophomore forward Jaylin Foster, who recorded a double-double last time out against Vanderbilt with 23 points, 10 rebounds, six steals…
