Highlanders Fall to Pacific in Season Opener

UCLA

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside hosted Pacific in a Monday matinee at the SRC Arena, falling 83-61 in both teams’ season opener.

Monday’s contest was a return game from when the two teams played an early season contest a year prior in Stockton.

Jordyn Marshall led UC Riverside in her Highlander debut with 10 points on 2-of-4 shooting, adding a steal and a three in 13 minutes off the bench. Paris Atchley added nine points in her first UCR contest as well, going 4 for 11 from the field with a rebound, a steal and three assists. Marshall scored eight of her 10 points in the second half.

RyAnne Walters ran the offense in the Highlanders’ first official game of the new season and put up an identical nine points on 4-of-11 shooting, but added defensive tenacity in the form of six steals to augment a rebound and an assist. UC Riverside corralled 14 steals that led to 23 points off turnovers for the afternoon.

UCR scored 12 of its 23 points off turnovers in the third quarter, where Jordan Webster scored all seven of her points for the afternoon on 2-of-4 shooting with a three and a pair of free throws.

UC Riverside will now spend a couple of weeks on the road, beginning this Thursday, November 10 with an 11:30 a.m. tipoff at UCLA.
