Soundbites: Preseason media availability - Virginia Tech Athletics

Ahead of its regular season beginning next week, Virginia Tech women’s basketball met with the press for a media availability. Read below for some highlights of what was said.

Head coach Kenny Brooks

Opening statement:

“First of all, as I was walking over here, and I can’t believe it’s just five days away. Time flies when you are having fun. I am excited. Probably the most excited I have been about a group of kids. We are just trying to put it together. By no means are we ready yet. I think with this group of kids, ready or not here it comes. With this group it is going to be fun to watch them grow as a unit. Individually, they have a lot of skill and talent. We just have to put it all together probably like a lot of teams across the country.”

Guard Kayana Traylor

On what the biggest difference is of where she was last year at this time to now:

“I think last year was a lot, with trying to learn a new system and the habits that I had of being in a different system for three years. Now, the game has finally slowed down for me for a little bit, which is helpful for me but also for my teammates.”

Forward Taylor Soule

On this team and the energy she brings to it:

“I think the vibe for this team is gritty go-getters. We’re extremely optimistic and realistic about our potential this year is definitely high. Then me individually, I’m just through the roof excited to be playing with a team like this. We have great players, great people and a great coaching staff.”

Guard Cayla King

On where she has grown the most this offseason:

“I think I’ve grown by watching and learning. Although I’m a senior, there is just so much for me to learn. I’ve learned a lot through Coach Brooks and Georgia [Amoore], even though she might be a little younger. She’s a smart player.”
