Prince Selected to Lisa Leslie Award Watch List


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Oregon’s Sedona Prince is among 20 players selected to the preseason watch list for the 2023 Lisa Leslie Award, presented annually to the nation’s top center by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the organizations announced Friday.
 
Prince, who is named to the Lisa Leslie Award preseason watch list for the first time in her career, is one of six players from the Pac-12 on the preseason list.
 
A native of Liberty Hill, Texas, the 6-foot-7 Prince led the Ducks and ranked fourth in the Pac-12 with her 54.2 shooting percentage from the field. She also ranked second on the team in rebounding (4.9 per game) and blocks (1.3 per game) while finishing fourth in scoring at 9.3 points a game.
 
Making a career-high 18 starts and 30 games a season ago, Prince scored in double figures 16 times and shot 50 percent of better from the field in 20 of 30 contests, including six of the last eight to close the campaign.
 
In her three-year Duck career (50 games), she is averaging 9.5 points per game while shooting 54.3 percent from the field, 4.4 rebounds per game and 1.4 blocks a game.
 
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, in each of the three rounds starting today, October 21. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2023 Lisa Leslie Award will be narrowed to 10, and then to five in late February. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Leslie and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee, where a winner will be selected. 
 
The 2023 Lisa Leslie Award winner will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the other four members of the Women’s Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Award (Point Guard), Ann Meyers Drysdale Award (Shooting Guard), Cheryl Miller Award (Small Forward) and Katrina McClain Award (Power Forward), in addition to the Men’s Starting Five.
 
Monday, Oregon guard Te-Hina Paopao was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list on for the second straight season.
