WBB'S McPherson Sidelined For Start Of Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C, – Kayla McPherson, a redshirt freshman guard on the UNC women’s basketball team, will be sidelined for the start of the season, coach Courtney Banghart announced on Monday.

McPherson sustained a lower body injury in practice and will undergo surgery this week. She is expected to miss at least the nonconference portion of the season.

McPherson, from Hull, Ga., sat out the 2021-22 season while continuing to rehabilitate a knee injury sustained in high school. Her current injury is unrelated to the previous one.

“We’re all devastated for Kayla,” Banghart said. “She was so ready to go this season and was prepared to be a big part of our rotation. We will fill her void collectively and we know that she will attack this rehabilitation process the same way she has in the past. We look forward to having her back on the court as soon as she’s cleared.”
