Trevelin Queen needs to bring energy, offensive ability

In this new series, Sixers Wire looks at the 20 players, per Sportrac, that comprise the Philadelphia 76ers roster — 18 under contract and the two players on two-way deals — and gives each three goals for the 2022-23 season.

The new season begins on Oct. 18, and training camp begins on Sept. 27. Now is the time to begin previewing the new season of adventure that is Sixers basketball. Philadelphia will have to trim a few players as the active roster limit is 15.

This edition focuses on Trevelin Queen who was signed as a free agent in the offseason. The young man has battled through adversity to make it to this point, but to make sure his contract is fully guaranteed by the Jan. 10 deadline, he will have to accomplish some goals for the 2022-23 season.

For Queen, his three goals are as follows:

The Sixers could always use a boost from the bench unit. That is why they spent the majority of the offseason upgrading it and making sure everybody is on the same page. Queen was the 2022 G League MVP and if he can bring energy to the second unit whether he’s playing or not, it would help team chemistry and the bench’s production.

At the moment, the Sixers have some proven bench options for offense. Additions De’Anthony Melton and Danuel House Jr. will help, but Queen was a big scorer in the G League, and he has an opportunity to show what he can do at the NBA level. Considering everything he has gone through to get to this point, one shouldn’t doubt that he can bring that production to the Sixers.

For the moment, House Jr. and Matisse Thybulle are ahead of Queen on the depth chart. Possibly even Furkan Korkmaz as well. Those are the guys Queen should have his eyes on. He should be looking to push them, eventually pass them on the depth chart and earn an opportunity in the rotation. He has an opportunity to guarantee his contract by the Jan. 10 deadline so he has to take advantage of it.
