Every player in Philadelphia 76ers history who has worn No. 16

It’s summertime in the NBA, so it’s time to learn some history. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the older franchises in the NBA. Their history dates to the 1949-50 season.

With that longevity, the team has had hundreds of players come through the City of Brotherly Love. Sixers Wire looks at the No. 16 which has been worn by 10 of those players in the history of the franchise.

This running series will go through all of the uniform numbers worn in franchise history. The previous edition of this series was a list compiling the 11 players who have worn the No. 17.

Here is the list of the 10 who have worn No. 16 in Sixers history:

Red Rocha, 1951-1956

Rocha played four seasons for the Syracuse Nationals, he retired for a season and returned in 1954, and he averaged 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds.

Bob Lavoy, 1953-1954

Lavoy played 60 games for the Nationals and he averaged 5.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in those games.

Al Bianchi, 1956-1959

Bianchi wore two different numbers for the Sixers and in the years he donned No. 16, he averaged 8.9 points and 3.1 rebounds.

Johnny Green, 1968

When Green was acquired from the San Diego Rockets, he donned No. 16 for the rest of the 1967-68 season and he averaged 5.1 points and 3.5 rebounds. He then switched to No. 12 the following season.

George Wilson, 1968-1970

Wilson, playing college basketball for Cincinnati in the above photo, averaged 5.5 points and 5.1 rebounds while donning No. 16 for the Sixers.

Bailey Howell, 1970-1971

Howell, playing for the Boston Celtics against the Los Angeles Lakers in the above photo, is a Hall of Famer who spent one season with the Sixers. He averaged 10.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in the 1970-71 season for the Sixers, his final NBA season.

Marreese Speights, 2008-2011

Speights, the 16th overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft, played three seasons for the Sixers and averaged 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds. He won a title with the Golden State Warriors in 2015.
