Where Phoenix Suns’ championship odds sit after Durant backflip

Kevin Durant’s recommital to the Brooklyn Nets has seen them catapult back towards the top of NBA championship favouritism, though the Phoenix Suns remain fairly steady in the market.

Odds altered drastically about a month ago, emanating from the Boston Celtics’ reported link to Durant as they offered Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and a pick. Brooklyn were unmoved in their concedence to Durant’s trade request, however that didn’t stop Boston from launching into strong favoritism at +400 on Wynnbet.

The Phoenix Suns have remained steady but as expected, the Brooklyn Nets have firmed in NBA championship odds.

The Celtics still hold favouritism for the title but have fallen to +600, just ahead of the team who beat them in the 2022 NBA Finals – the Golden State Warriors at +650. Three teams now sit on the third line of betting at +700 – the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers and now the Nets.

Brooklyn have leapfrogged Phoenix who were previously fifth favourite for the championship. The Suns have fallen to +800, having previously been at +750. The question must be asked whether Brooklyn deserve to hold greater betting favouritism than the Suns, particularly given the relationship question marks still remaining between key personnel in the locker room.

Clearly bookmakers feel like the Nets upside is too hard to ignore, a stance they took for the majority of last season before they were swept by the Celtics in the first round.

Interestingly, the Los Angeles Lakers’ odds have fallen too, that despite the franchise acquiring hard-nosed defender Patrick Beverley in a deal for Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson. The Lakers were +1200 a month ago but are now equal eighth favourite with the Miami Heat at +1400. The Philadelphia 76ers follow the Suns as seventh favourite at +1000.
