Bulls have been ‘very vague’ about Lonzo’s status

Heading into the 2022-23 season, the Chicago Bulls success will stem from the health of point guard Lonzo Ball.

Ball suffered a small meniscus tear in late-January, which forced him to miss the remainder of the season due to feeling discomfort in the knee when trying to ramp up his rehab.

Jamal Collier of ESPN said on “NBA Today” on Monday that the Bulls have been ‘very vague’ regarding the status of Lonzo’s knee, yet Lonzo’s camp seems to be confident.

Collier:

“I talked to somebody in Lonzo’s camp that’s expressing some confidence that he’ll be ready to go for the start of the season, but—just me speculating—I could see them slow-playing Lonzo a little bit to make sure he’s 100 percent and really ready to go”

As Collier noted, the original timeline for Lonzo’s return was 4-to-6 weeks but that timeline continued to get pushed back as rehab didn’t go as planned.

Lonzo’s father, LaVar, stated last month to David Kaplan of ESPN Chicago that Lonzo’s knee was ‘coming along’ and that he should be ‘ready to go’ come the start of the regular season.

The loss of Ball, and Alex Caruso, on the defensive end for the majority of the second half last season, hindered Chicago’s perimeter defense which led to them falling from the No. 1 seed to No. 6 in the Eastern Conference, ultimately losing in the first-round to the Milwaukee Bucks.
