Northwestern Men's Basketball Announces Non-Conference Schedule


EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern men’s basketball team released its complete non-conference schedule for the 2022-23 season on Friday morning. The slate features eight home games inside Welsh-Ryan Arena, including four tilts against Chicagoland foes Chicago State, Northern Illinois, DePaul and UIC.
 
Season tickets are available now. Northwestern will face Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin at home in Big Ten play on dates to be announced.
 
The campaign opens with back-to-back home games, beginning with the season-opener on Monday, Nov. 7, against Chicago State. Later that week, Northern Illinois makes the short drive from DeKalb on Friday, Nov. 11.
 
Northwestern heads to the nation’s capital on Tuesday, Nov. 15, squaring off against Georgetown in the Gavitt Tipoff Games. The Wildcats return to WRA on Friday, Nov. 18, to face Purdue Fort Wayne, in a game that is part of the Cancun Challenge MTE.
 
The Wildcats will break out their passports and travel to Cancun, Mexico, for a pair of games at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya during Thanksgiving Week. NU battles Liberty on Tuesday, Nov. 22, and either Bradley or Auburn on Wednesday, Nov. 23.
 

Non-conference play closes with five consecutive home games, beginning against Pitt as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Monday, Nov. 28. Northwestern will host Prairie View A&M (Sunday, Dec. 11), ahead of two games against Windy City foes DePaul (Saturday, Dec. 17) and UIC (Tuesday, Dec. 20). Non-league action wraps up on Thursday, Dec.29, against Brown.
 
Additionally, NU will play one exhibition game at home before the start of the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 2, against an opponent to be determined.
 
Non-Conference Opponents – Need to Know
 
Chicago State

  • Northwestern leads the all-time series, 14-0.
  • The Wildcats last played Chicago State on Dec. 5, 2020, claiming a 111-66 win, scoring the fifth-most points in a single-game in program history.
  • NU has won 13 of its last 14 season openers.

Northern Illinois

  • Northwestern leads the all-time series, 9-2.
