Women’s Basketball: Macalester Registers Second-Best GPA in Division III

St. Paul, Minn. – The Macalester women’s basketball team earned a spot on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Honor Roll, announced by the association today.

The Scots ranked second in Division III, registering a GPA of 3.763. This is the first year Macalester has earned the honor, which recognizes teams for their academic achievement.

This is the 27th season in which the WBCA has honored 4-year and 2-year collegiate women’s basketball programs that exemplified excellence in the classroom, by upholding a 3.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The 2021-22 season marks the first year in which all teams meeting this criterion are eligible for recognition.

Last month, seven Scots were honored by the MIAC with Academic All-Conference accolades: Celine Sabbagh (Eau Claire, Wis./Regis), Solana Cushing (Minneapolis, Minn./South), Emma LaFrenz (Edina, Minn./Edina), Jada Northover (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University HS), Andrea Palmen (Kenosha, Wis./The Prairie School), Caitlin Panos (North Andover, Mass./North Andover), and Maia Pedrosa (South San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco).

Macalester has the highest GPA of the four MIAC schools on the 2021-22 WBCA Academic Top 25 honor roll. Gustavus Adolphus, St. Catherine, and St. Scholastica also made the top 25.
