Men’s Basketball | July 18, 2022

The USC men’s basketball program earned a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Award for its excellence during the 2021-22 season, it was announced today (July 19).  Additionally, individual players Chevez Goodwin, Reggie Parris, Drew Peterson and Amar Ross were named to the NABC Honors Court for the 2021-22 season.

To receive an NABC Team Academic Award, the program needed to have a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). An individual with a 3.2 GPA or better and at least a junior academically qualified.  The men’s basketball program maintained a 3.01 team GPA following the spring semester.

The graduate student Goodwin earned his master’s in Communications Management.  He averaged 11.0 points and 6.4 rebounds, while starting all 34 games.  Goodwin was second in rebounding and fourth in scoring for the 2022 Trojans.  Goodwin’s valuable presence to the team was noted mid-season when the coaching staff elevated him to a team captain.

Peterson, a senior guard academically, earned his degree in Business Administration.  The Pac-12 All-Conference first team player averaged 12.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists while starting all 34 games.  Peterson made 46.7 percent of his field goal attempts and 41.2 percent of his shots from three-point range.  He led USC with 113 assists, was second on the team with 76 free throws made and was third in rebounding and scoring.

The senior guard Parris completed his second season in a reserve roll for the Trojans and graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the Marshall School of Business.  At the 2021-22 USC men’s basketball team award’s banquet, Parris was honored with the Dr. James H. Zumberge Academic Award for the highest GPA on the team (3.97).

The senior guard Ross graduated this season with a degree in Psychology.  In his two season with the Trojans, he made 3 of 4 field goal attempts, all three-pointers.
