One UNC basketball standout is among 247Sports’ All-American team predictions for the upcoming 2022-2023 college basketball season.

When he announced that he would return to the UNC basketball program for his senior season, there was never a doubt that Armando Bacot would be considered among the best returning players in all of college basketball.

According to Isaac Trotter of 247Sports, Bacot is in line for an All-American-type season for the Tar Heels.

Trotter released his preseason All-American team list and tabbed Bacot as a preseason first-team All-American selection. The Tar Heels standout big man was joined by Drew Timme of Gonzaga, Hunter Dickerson of Michigan, Jaime Jaquez of UCLA as well as Oscar Tshiebwe of Kentucky on Trotter’s first team list.

Of course, it’s pretty unusual that Trotter’s list features all front-count players. However, the returning crop of players is very front-court heavy, as you could make the case that Tshiebwe, Dickerson, and Bacot (all considered centers) are the top three overall players in the country.

Here’s what Trotter had to say about Bacot as he prepares for his fourth season in Chapel Hill:

The North Carolina big man will already go down as a Tar Heel great. But might be able to put himself on the Mount Rushmore of North Carolina basketball if he can lead the Tar Heels to a national championship in his final season. Guard play can sometimes impact the production of big men, so Bacot will be at his best if R.J. Davis and Caleb Love find the consistency that they showcased in UNC’s deep March run. But Bacot will ace the things he can control. He will play with elite effort. He’s going to have a monster impact on the glass and defensively.

All eyes will be on the Tar Heels this season as they look for some redemption after last season’s loss in the national championship game. It’s safe to say that North Carolina will go as far as their very talented big man will take them this season.
