Continuing with our 2021-22 season of each player on the Philadelphia 76ers, we now turn our attention to a fan favorite in Paul Reed. The man named Bball Paul played in only 38 games, with two starts, during the regular season, but he came on late and played a role in the postseason.

Reed, an energetic second-year big man out of DePaul, had trouble getting on the court in the early part of the season. Sitting behind both Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond initially on the depth chart, he looked like he would have an opportunity when Drummond was moved to the Brooklyn Nets in the James Harden deal.

However, the Sixers then brought in veteran DeAndre Jordan and Reed did not see much action as the backup until the playoffs.

Season highlights

At the beginning of the season, the Sixers gave Reed a bit of a chance off the bench. He did a lot of good things for Philadelphia as somebody who could provide a ton of energy and as somebody who can give the team a jolt when the time calls for it.

However, he wasnโ€™t able to earn any consistent minutes as he struggled a bit with defensive rotations and was out of sorts on the offensive end.

After spending some time in the G League, Reed earned the backup center minutes heading into the playoffs and he provided some good moments in the postseason.

The unique Round 1 matchup with the Toronto Raptors offered Reed a chance to play. The Raptors are not a tall team as they are armed with a lot of guys who stand at 6-foot-8 and have a lot of length. The young big man was the backup to Embiid in the series and he averaged 4.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in the series.
